Yosemite National Park Featured on new quarter

  • U.S. Mint says it is part of its “Beautiful Quarters” Program
  • “The designs will help reinvigorate interest in our national parks”

Yosemite National Park will be the third national park to be included in a new quarter-dollar coin program that launches next year, according to the U.S. Mint. The “America the Beautiful Quarters Program” is a multi-year initiative that is scheduled to see the minting of 56 circulating quarter-dollar coins with reverse (tail side) designs emblematic of a national park or other national sites in each state. The good, the bad, the fast
High Speed Rail may bisect cities
The Madera Tribune

If a proposed heavy maintenance facility for the state’s High Speed Rail System is located in Madera County, the benefits could include 5,050 new jobs, dozens of new peripheral industries, some $48 billion in new local business and more than $45 million annually in new tax revenue for the county and its two incorporated cities. Sierra Nevada Tourism Web site awarded $205K
The Business Journal

The Federal Highway Administration awarded $205,000 for a local project’s efforts to promote tourism in the Central Sierra Nevada. The recently launched Sierra Nevada Geotourism Mapguide project was just one of 160 projects nationwide to receive a portion of the $40.7 million released by the Federal Highway Administration to promote and conserve roads designated as scenic or historic byways.

For the sixth year in a row, California tops the list of states that Americans would choose to live in if they did not live in the states where they are now. Florida, which was the most popular state in 2001, retains second place on the list and Hawaii is number three. Read more

PG&E Offers Storm Preparation for Customers
PG&E


PG&EDuring a storm, the combination of strong winds and heavy rain could result in trees, tree limbs and other vegetation coming into contact with overhead power lines and interrupting electric service to customers. If customers experience a power outage, they should call PG&E’s outage information line at 1-800-PGE-5002 to report the outage or to get updates on power restoration efforts in their area.
