Madera County Economic Development Commission (MCEDC) will hold their quarterly Commissioners Meeting on July 14, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at the MCEDC Office. The public is welcome to attend MCEDC's Commissioner Meetings. This is a great opportunity to meet Economic Development staff and learn more about the mission and services that MCEDC provides.

Opening for new sheriff / fire stations

A ribbon cutting ceremony and open house will take place on June 1 for the new $4.96 million Madera County Sheriff's Department substation and Madera County Fire Station No. 12 west of Oakhurst. The complex includes the 9,600 square foot substation, a 1,500 square foot sheriff's department evidence garage and the 6,000 square foot fire station. Read more

The Madera City Council has decided to back the route for the proposed California High-Speed Rail tracks that would run east of the city, along the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad right-of-way (A-1 route). Read more

California's jobless rate stalls at 12.6 percent

Haunted by the housing bubble and chained to a yawning state budget deficit, California's job market continued to trail the nation's last month. The state's unemployment rate stalled at a record 12.6 percent. Employers statewide added 14,200 workers in April, the Employment Development Department said. Read more

Foreclosure filings drop in California

- Central Valley sees declines in every county
Foreclosure filings were down in April in California for the first time since the beginning of the year. But despite the decline in filings, the inventory of properties in preforeclosure or scheduled for sale only dipped slightly as the drop in filings were offset by an increase in the time to foreclose, according to a report from ForeclosureRadar Inc. California's median home price jumps 14.3% in March

The median price paid for a California home in March jumped 14.3% compared with the same month last year, reflecting a reduction in the number of foreclosure properties on the market and the comeback of higher-priced coastal area. The San Francisco Bay Area sees a 31% median-price gain. Read more

With the goal of providing customers with a total product line offering, Advanced Drainage Systems, Inc. (ADS) announced it has acquired Piedmont Concrete (Pineville, NC), a manufacturer of pre-cast sanitary and storm water structures. The latest acquisition follows the April 2010 purchase of the Foltz Concrete Pipe Company of Winston-Salem, NC. Click here for press release
