Madera County Unemployment rate DROPS

For the first time in 6 months, Madera County’s unemployment rate dropped in April, according to the state Employment Development Department. Madera County unemployment rate was 14.6 percent in April, down from an adjusted 15.3 percent in March. The State’s unemployment rate also fell to 10.9 percent in April from 11.5 percent the prior month.

Fresno up, Madera down in median incomes

Fresno County is ranked 51 out of the 58 counties for highest median income, according to the Franchise Tax Board. Fresno County’s median income rose 0.5 percent to $28,180 in 2007 compared to $28,035 in 2006. In the same period, the statewide median income grew 0.72 percent to $35,646 over 2006. Madera County reported a median income drop of 1.4 percent, going from $28,385 in 2006 to $27,968 in 2007. That drop boosts Madera County’s rank to 53 from 49 in 2006 for highest median incomes (CA has a total of 58 counties). Read more

North Fork to add fire station
Madera Tribune

North Fork will have a new volunteer fire station, thanks to an agreement by the North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians, the North Fork community Development Council and Madera County. The county will contribute $400,000 to the project, the North Fork Tribe will contribute $460,000 and the Community Development Council will donate 15 acres of the old mill site to the county, which will be divided into four parcels, One of the parcels will be used for the fire station. Oakhurst recognizes two ribbon cuttings and a ground breaking

  • Ribbon Cutting - AT& T located on Highway 41 in Oakhurst
  • Ribbon Cutting - Sugar Pine Take & Bake Pizza located at 40359 Hwy 41, Oakhurst
  • Ground Breaking - Central Valley Community Bancorp has started construction on a new 3,300 square foot office. The bank is relocating off of Highway 49 to a newly constructed retail shopping center located at 40004 Highway 41, Suite 101. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2009.

California high-speed train officials approved a list of shovel-ready construction projects likely to qualify for $8 billion in federal stimulus funding for high-speed trains- including a segment in the Central Valley. Read more

TrafficAir district has $15M for trucks
The Business Journal

The San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution District has $15 million to help heavy-duty diesel truck owners replace their small fleets with cleaner models. The program is part of the state Air Resources Board’s plan to reduce truck and bus emissions and meet federal air quality standards. The program targets trucks built in 1993 and earlier that are operated 75 percent of the time in California. The grants are for up to $35,000, depending upon the age of the truck, and are made on first-come, first served. The old trucks must be destroyed. Read more
