Valley Business Conference 2008
February 28, 2008
7:30 A.M.- 2:00 P.M.

Be a part of the largest regional business conference in the San Joaquin Valley. Valley Business Conference 2008 “Succeeding with Global Challenges” will be held at the Fresno Convention Center Exhibit Hall, 848 M Street, Fresno. Conference speakers are Ephren Taylor and Keynote Speaker Moises Niam. Admission is $70 which includes the morning session and business tradeshow followed by a luncheon with Keynote Speaker Moises Niam.

Madera County Unemployment Rate

The unemployment rate in Madera County was 8.5 percent in December 2007, up from 7.7 percent in November 2007, and above the year-ago estimate of 6.9 percent. This compares with an unadjusted unemployment rate of 5.9 percent for California and 4.8 percent for the nation during the same period. Read more...

California home foreclosures soar

Lending institutions in California sent homeowners 81,550 default notices during the October-to-December period.  That was up by 12.4 percent from 72,571 the previous quarter, and up 114.6 percent from 37,994 for fourth-quarter 2006, according to DataQuick. Read more...

2007 job cuts lowest in 7 years

December job cuts plunged 39 percent to 44,416 from 73,140 announced job cuts in November, for the second lowest job-cut total of 2007, behind 42,897 job cuts in July, according to figures compiled by outplacement firm Challenger, Gray and Christmas Inc. December job cuts were also 18.7 percent lower than the same month a year ago when employers announced 54,643 job cuts. Read more...

Constellation Brands to sell Almaden and Inglenook for $134M

Constellation Brands Inc., the nation’s largest wine producer and major employer in Madera County announced that it will sell its Almaden and Inglenook wine brands, along with the Paul Masson Winery, to the Wine Group LLC for $134 million.According to Constellation, they will retain its Madera-based Mission Bell Winery to help it boost premium wine production in the San Joaquin Valley region. The Mission Bell winery will also provide production services to the Wine Group “for a period of time on a contract basis,” company officials said. Read more...
